The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training

We are now offering Tier 1 and Tier 2 Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training delivered by our team of approved trainers.

We are proud to be one of the approved teams to support the delivery of The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training in Learning Disability and Autism, with the ambition to improve outcomes for people with a learning disability and autistic people.

The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training in Learning Disability and Autism is named after Oliver McGowan, whose death shone a light on the need for health and social care staff to have better training.

The Health and Care Act 2022 review introduced a statutory requirement that regulated service providers (CQC registered providers) ensure their staff receive learning disability and autism training appropriate to their role.

Oliver’s e-learning can be accessed on the elfh website;

Tier 2 of Oliver’s Training in Learning Disability and Autism is for people who may need to provide care and support for autistic people or people with a learning disability.

The Tier 2 1 day face-to-face training is co-delivered as a trio, with co-expert trainers- a person with a learning disability and an autistic person, and an approved facilitator.

This training has to be delivered in person. You can either book one of our set training days at a selected venue, or you can ask us to come to your organisation to train.

NHS England have developed Tier Guidance to help organisations determine which Tier their staff will need.

Oliver was a young man  aged 18, with a bright future ahead of him. His parents have shared that Oliver loved life and was incredibly popular amongst his peers.  While Oliver had co occurring needs that needed some monitoring and support from health professionals, Oliver did not let this stop him leading his best life before the events leading to his death. His parents have shared he was talented at football and enjoyed watching football with his father.

We are passionate about improving outcomes for others, so no one else has to go through what Oliver did.

We encourage to stand with us, and invest in the training named in Oliver’s legacy and make a real difference to other autistic and people with a learning disability lives.
