Commitment to achieving Net Zero
Autism Oxford UK’s Commitment to Achieving Net Zero Emissions by 2030.
At Autism Oxford UK, we are dedicated to creating a sustainable future for our community and the world at large.
Achieving net zero emissions by 2030 is not just a goal for Autism Oxford; it is a reflection of our values and our commitment to the environment and future generations. We understand that this journey will require dedication, innovation, and collaboration, and we are prepared to take bold steps to meet this challenge.
By integrating sustainability into every aspect of our operations, we are paving the way for a greener, healthier, and more equitable world. We invite our partners, clients, and community members to join us on this journey towards a net zero future.
Our Strategy for Net Zero Emissions
1.1. Building Improvements: We will conduct comprehensive energy audits of our facilities to identify opportunities for reducing energy consumption. Upgrades will include the installation of energy-efficient lighting, heating, and cooling systems.
1.2. Renewable Energy: Transitioning to full renewable energy sources, such as more solar panels, which will play a critical role in our strategy. We aim to generate a significant portion of our energy needs from renewable sources by 2025.
2.1 Encouraging Alternatives: Promoting the use of public transport, carpooling, cycling, and walking among our employees and service users to reduce our carbon footprint.
2.2 Sharing Transportation: We will review our travel expenses policy to encourage staff to share transportation to reduce our footprint when alternatives cannot be used.
3.1 Recycling Programs: Enhancing our recycling programs to ensure that we minimise waste going to landfill. This includes the proper disposal and recycling of electronic waste and other hazardous materials.
Carbon Reduction Plan
4.1 Autism Oxford UK uses the National Grid Definitions of Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions.
4.2 Scope 1: Scope 1 are those direct emissions that are owned or controlled by a company.
4.3 Scope 2: Scope 2 emissions are emissions that a company causes indirectly and come from where the energy it purchases and uses is produced. For example, the emissions caused when generating the electricity that we use in our buildings would fall into this category.
4.4 Scope 3: Scope 3 emissions encompasses emissions that are not produced by the company itself and are not the result of activities from assets owned or controlled by them, but by those that it’s indirectly responsible for up and down its value chain. An example of this is when we buy, use and dispose of products from suppliers. Scope 3 emissions include all sources not within the scope 1 and 2 boundaries.

Emission Reduction Plan
5.1 In order to continue our progress to achieving Net Zero, we have adopted the following carbon reduction targets. We project that carbon emissions will decrease over the next six years to 20 tCO2e by 21.6. This is a reduction of 25%.
5.2 We will focus on scope 3 and how we deliver our services to support this.
5.3 Future Carbon Reduction Initiatives:
Project | Scope | Detail |
Reducing commute emissions | 3 | We commit to reviewing our expenses policy to encourage staff with incentives to car share when alternative transports cannot be used.
We will look to determine how we can incentise team members to explore hybrid and or electric cars, when they are due to replace or upgrade their current vehicle.
We will explore common places or work and contracts and look to recruit staff in these demographics to reduce travel needs. |
Office Emissions | 2 | We already utilise solar panels for some of or energy consumptions. We will look to increase the use of our solar panels over the next 3 years. We will also complete a audit of electricity use to determine ways we can be more conscious on the energy we are using and make quick and effective changes. |
