Peer Support Practitioner/Neurodivergent Specialist Counsellor
Hello, my name is Sara, and I am a psychotherapeutic counsellor and peer support practitioner at Autism Oxford UK.
I am late discovered autistic myself and have two autistic and ADHD children one of whom has a PDA profile.
I have a professional diploma in psychotherapeutic counselling and am an accredited member of the National Society for Counselling and Psychotherapy (NCPS).
I work with neurodivergent adults and young people as well as parents of autistic/ADHD children.
My counselling and psychotherapy sessions have a neuroaffirming approach, this means that I understand and celebrate autism and ADHD, and my work helps individuals to foster self-compassion and positive identity.
The therapy I offer is adjusted to accommodate the unique needs of the individual, rather than trying to fit the person into the idea of what a counselling session should be like.
Whether you need a safe space to process past experiences or a diagnosis/self-identification, work on your wellbeing and mental health or somewhere to receive support for behaviour change, grief and loss, stress or relationships I can help.
As a peer support practitioner, I use my lived experience to support adults, children and/or their parents through the assessment process. I provide longer-term peer mentoring and post-diagnostic support and work as part of the team delivering training webinars and workshops.
I am also a qualified yoga teacher and can bring relaxation and mindfulness techniques into my sessions to help with emotional dysregulation, stress and burnout.
